Director of Public Safety and Technology Sam Wolford 108 E Main St Emergency Management Coordinator/ Hazardous Materials Coordinator Dave White 108 East Main St The Emergency Management Coordinator acts as a liaison between Tazewell County and the Virginia Department of Emergency Management. The decision to declare a county-wide disaster and attempt to bring in state and federal emergency assistance will be coordinated within certain guidelines. It is the ESC responsibility to ensure the safety of the citizens during time of large scale disasters. Coordinates Hazardous Materials Response with local Fire Departments and Virginia State Agencies. Hazardous Materials Coordinator coordinates hazardous material incidents between the citizen, local and state agencies. It is the Coordinator's responsibility to ensure all incidents dealing with hazardous material is mitigated to ensure the least damage to life, property, and the enviroment.
The Tazewell Communicator Newsletter (click to read) Tazewell County 911 has been handling emergency calls in Tazewell County since April 23, 1997. We currently process over 9,000 emergency calls a year. The 911 Center dispatches Fire, Police, and Rescue for emergency calls. Requests for Incident Reports or Recordings will be given only by court subpoena. This is to protect the confidentiality and security of any persons calling the 911 center. Any complaints or questions regarding the service of 911 please contact the Coordinator. The 911 Center is currently readdressing Tazewell County from the rural route system to a physical address. Your local Postmaster will inform you of a mailing address change. The new physical address will be your new mailing address, but do not start using this without checking with your local Postmaster. This is being done nationwide and is dictated by federal and state laws. Upon receiving your new physical address it must be posted on your residence in plain view within 30 days. If your residence is not visible from the road addressed, please post your numbers at the entrance to your driveway and on your residence. This allows responders to find your residence faster and possibly your life. Any question or complaints please contact the Mapping/ Addressing Coordinator.
Tazewell County Special Police 108 East Main St Sam Wolford, Director David White, Supervisor Larry Nipper, Sergeant George Pilkins, Corporal Mission Statement: To Provide for the welfare and safety of the surrounding communities, its citizens and environment while enforcing the law and maintaining safe responsive emergency services throughout the County of Tazewell, Virginia. Two officers patrol the County 8am to 4pm Monday thru Friday excluding holidays. During the weekend or holidays there is one officer on call for emergency traffic only. Tazewell County Special Police have no jurisdiction inside of town limits with the exception of tags and shots. Any litter or animal control complaint inside town limits will be handled by the town police department. Dog Requirements: Prices:
Dogs trained and used as guide dogs for vision or hearing impaired person will have a license, but will not be charged a tax. Payments are to be made at the County Treasurer's Office in the Courthouse floor 2A. You must take a copy of the rabies vacaniaction with you. If the dog's license is lost, destroyed, or stolen the owner shall present the original license receipt to the treasurer and make an application for a copy. A fee of $1.00 will be charged for a duplicate license. Complaints of service should be directed to the Director or County Administrator.

They are funded by the Tazewell County Board of Supervisors, donations and fund raisers. They are trained according the standards of the Virginia Department of Fire Programs . If you have ever wanted to volunteer please contact them by letter or stop by for one of their meetings. Feel that there is nothing you can give? You can help with fundraisers, accounting, purchasing, cleaning, or just run errands.

Mission Statement:
Tazewell County Citizens Corps Council has adopted the same mission statement in order to bring awareness, education and training to the citizens of Tazewell County through this national movement and the dedication of Virginia Corps, an intiative of Governor Mark Warner to increase volunteerism and disaster awareness throughout the state of Virginia. Currently there are five programs under the National Citizen Corps umbrella: CERT, Medical Reserve Corps, Nieghborhood Watch, Fire Corps and Volunteers in Police Service.
